Printed circuit boards (PCBs) mechanically support and electrically connect electronic components using conductive tracks, pads and other features etched from copper sheets laminated onto a non-conductive substrate. Components – capacitors, resistors or active devices – are generally soldered on the PCB.

Printed circuit boards can be divided into single sided (one copper layer), double sided (two copper layers) and multi-layer (outer and inner layers). The common multi-layer PCBs are 4-layer PCB and 6-layer PCB, but the complex multi-layer boards can be up to dozens of layers.
